One might add the argument that if, strictly for argument sake, we eliminated all the science represented by collaborators with East Anglia climate scientists, that would amount to < 1% of all evidence in support of human-induced climate warming related to excess CO2 in the atmosphere. The science is simply overwhelming: a true scientific "consensus" has been reached on this matter using multiple lines of inquiry and evidence.
The inflammatory, sensationalist, language used in HJR012 is likely to embarrass the State of Utah more than it will help matters. I am a proud resident of this state and firmly believe we do not need to be held up as the poster child for state sanctioned scientifically illiterate arguments.

I am shocked how poorly the resolution was justified, ridiculing not only my own work but also that of thousands of my colleagues in the climate sciences.

As a glaciologist studying the declining ice in Greenland and Alaskan glaciers and as an Earth scientist aware of the climate change literature it is embarrassing to see the science twisted in this manner.

The selective omission/use of data to justify the bill is unfortunate. Global climate is a very complex system, and there are challenges to using proxies to evaluate long term baselines, as well as challenges in obtaining unbiased estimates of recent climate. However, when multiple data sets have been evaluated (with peer review), the consensus that has emerged among climate experts is solid. Failure to address CO2 emissions may have serious consequences.
